Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Start Date: September 5
Location: Edina
Children:  1 and 3 year old boys
Compensation:  Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  paid holidays
Schedule:  Monday through Friday 8:30 to 5:00 PM.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with toddler and preschool  age children, previous nanny experience and experience caring for two young children
Description:  Providing excellent loving care for the two boys is the nanny's primary responsibility. The parents are seeking a nanny who will engage with the boys; singing, reading and doing age appropriate activities that stimulate them and enhance their development. They enjoy getting outdoors and out in the community. The older boy attends part time morning preschool and the nanny will need to pick him up. It is important that the nanny is loving, energetic and will provide the boys with the warmth of a family member.

Type of Position:  Part time, 30 hours in 4 days
Start Date: September 5, could consider earlier
Location: Edina
Children:  6 month and 3 year old girls
Compensation:  Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  paid holidays
Schedule:  Tuesday and Thursday start between 8-9:00 AM to 6-7:00 PM, Wednesday and Friday, start between 9-10:00 AM to 2-3:00 PM for a total of 30 hours.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infant and preschool  age children, ability to work a flexible schedule
Description:  The parents are seeking an experienced nanny who is friendly, outgoing with children and will provide age appropriate educational activities for the girls. The older girl attends preschool on Wednesday morning and nanny will need to transport her as well as take the children on outings and to other scheduled activities. The family does require some flexibility on start and end times but can also be flexible to accommodate some schedule needs of the nanny. The family enjoys being outdoors, going to the lake and spending time with cousins.

Type of Position:  Full time
Start Date: August
Location: Hopkins, near 169 and Minnetonka Blvd
Children:  5 and 7 year old boys
Compensation:  Up to $900 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  holidays and will contribute to medical insurance
Schedule:  Three days per week, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM and two days per week 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The family can be flexible on which days are longer and which are shorter to accommodate the nanny's preference.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous full time child care experience with  preschool and young school ages
Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who  is responsible, mature, a good role model and passionate about making kids their best. It's important to them that she hold the children accountable to rules and practicing safe behavior. The older boy is in kindergarten and the younger boy attends part time morning preschool. The nanny will need to provide transportation for them but both schools are within a few miles of the home. While the boys are in school, the family would appreciate help with basic household chores, grocery shopping, errands, children's laundry and simple dinner prep. This family lives in a great neighborhood with a large yard and the boys are active and enjoy outdoor play.
Pets: One small dog, hypoallergenic, non shedding
Type of Position:  Full time, 40 hours in four days
Start Date: July 24
Location: Minneapolis, South
Children:  2 month and 2 1/2 year old girls
Compensation:  Up to $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays
Schedule:  Tuesday through Friday  7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Previous full time child care experience with infant and toddler/preschool age children, some education in childhood development is preferred and someone who likes to sing or play music is a plus, CPR and First Aid training
Description:  The focus of this job is on the children. The older girl currently attends a child care center and will continue with this 2-3 days per week. It's important that the nanny have a knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities to engage the children. This family loves music and the parents want music to be a part of their daughters' lives. The older girl loves playing in the backyard and going for walks so a nanny who enjoys getting outdoors is a good fit for this family..

Type of Position:  Part time, about 33 hours in three days
Start Date: August
Location: Minneapolis, near Lake Harriet
Children:  3 1/2, 6, and twin 8 year olds boys
Compensation:  Up to $23 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays  negotiable and the family provides a vehicle for transporting the children
Schedule:  Monday, Tuesday and Thursday  7:30 AM to 6:30 PM. However, two times per month either the Tuesday or Thursday hours will be 11:30 AM to 8 or 9:30 PM.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous full time child care experience with  preschool and young school ages
Description:  The parents are hoping to find a nanny who enjoys arts and crafts as the boys love crafting. All four boys are in Suzuki piano so a musical background is preferred. This is an active family that enjoys being outdoors and the boys play together well. Duties include driving the children to and from school and activities, meal prep, one load of laundry daily and playing and having fun!

Type of Position:  Part time, Live In, studio apartment provided in a remodeled carriage house
Start Date: Late August/early September
Location: Minneapolis, near the Walker 
Children:  11 year old girl
Compensation:  Negotiable
Benefits: Negotiable
Schedule:  Monday through Friday 7:15 to 8:30 AM and 3:00-4:15 to 7-8:00 PM,  and sometimes some hours on Saturday morning/afternoon. There will be a few weeks of overnight care required when the grandparents travel
Additional Qualifiers: Previous  child care experience with school age children
Description:  The child is an active and engaging 11 year old girl. She attends a school that specializes in helping children with learning disabilities and this has been great for her. She enjoys ice skating, acting, singing, dancing and clowning. The grandparents have been her guardians for three years. Primary duties of the nanny are to care the girl before and after school, transport her to school and/or activities, prepare her a snack or dinner and provide some homework supervision. The grandparents do like to travel a few weeks per years so then the nanny would need to stay overnight in the home and be responsible 24/7 for the child. She would however be in school during the day.

Children:  3 1/2 year old girl and 5 year old boy
Compensation:  Up to $20  per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule:  Monday and Wednesday 6:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Tuesday 12:30 PM to 6:30 PM Thursday and Friday 7:00 AM to 5:00 pm
Additional Qualifiers: Experienced career nanny with 5+ years of nanny experience.
Description:   The parents are seeking an experienced  nanny who will love on the kids all day, help shape them into caring and productive members of society and make it easy/comfortable for them to go to work every day. Someone who is organized, takes initiative and can set her own day will thrive in this household. The current nanny of 2+ years is an integral part of the family but due to the family moving, she no longer can continue with them. This will be transition for all but the parents are optimistic that there is another great nanny out there for their family. The children enjoy playing outdoors. They attend part time preschool and are involved in lessons and activities outside the home.
Pets: One Yellow Lab and one garage cat

Type of Position:  Full Time, Household Manager/Nanny
Start Date:  Late summer, could consider an earlier start
Location:  Wayzata
Children:  10 year old girl and 18 year old twin boys (in college in the fall)
Compensation:  $800+  per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Two weeks paid vacation and holidays, willing to consider a contribution to medical, the family provides a vehicle for transporting the younger child and running errands
Schedule:  The schedule is typically as follows: Monday and Wednesday 12:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday and Friday 7:00 AM to 5-6:30 PM and Thursday 12:00 to 9:30 PM. The parents do some travelling and then the nanny would need to stay overnight.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with school age children, experience with household management, mature with good time management skills
Description:  The girl who is just finishing up 4th grade needs to be picked up from school, escorted to activities and help with homework. She is a type 1 diabetic so nanny will need to learn how to manage this. Household management duties to be performed while she is in school include cooking, shopping, errands, light housekeeping and laundry/ironing. The parents do have  busy schedules and occasional week night events. The father has a flexible schedule and is around so he and the nanny work together daily. This family has had the same nanny for 17 years. Her job has evolved from nanny to home manager. She moved to Minnesota recently with the family. However, she wants to be closer to home and her family.
