Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field

NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position: Full Time, will guarantee 35 hours per week,  see schedule below

Start Date: May

Location: Edina

Children:  Newborn and 3 1/2 year old girls 

Compensation: Up to $20 per hour

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days

Schedule: Ten hours on Monday and Tuesday and all or part of Wednesday. Additional hours could be evening and/or weekend. The nanny must be willing to work on a couple weekends per month. The schedule is somewhat variable and nanny will know a few weeks in advance.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with young infant to preschool age children, previous nanny experience with at least one long term family, ideal would be some form of childhood education and if the nanny speaks Spanish, that is a plus!

Description:  The role of the nanny is to provide quality care, nurturing and age appropriate creative activities for the children. The older girls attends preschool on Monday and Tuesday and spends the day with grandparents on Wednesdays. This will most likely continue so the nanny would usually only be caring for the infant on these days. Child care duties would also include some daycare drop off or pick up and going to the park and other outside activities.

Type of Position: Part Time, 15-20 hours per week

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Minneapolis, near Lake and Lyndale

Children: 14 month old girl

Compensation: Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: The family can be flexible with the actual days and hours to fit the nanny's schedule or other commitments. Ideally, they are looking for three days per week, 6-7 hours per day. But they could be open to four or five shorter days.

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler age children, child development or Montessori background is a plus but not required. CPR and First Aid certified or willing to obtain. 

Description: The parents are seeking a nurturing warm and fun nanny to care for their daughter. They would like someone who takes initiative and has fun coming up with ideas for age appropriate activities,  play and outings. The mother does not currently work outside the home, so while she will be gone, the nanny would need to be comfortable with her at home as well either working or doing tasks around the house.

Pets: One dog who is home on Tuesday and Thursday and would just need to be let out in the backyard.


Type of Position: Full Time,  average 45 hours per week, see schedule below

Start Date: ASAP

Location: North Oaks

Children:  Twin boys who are almost 10 years old and a 13 year old girl 

Compensation: Up to $900 per, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and a contribution to medical insurance. The family provides a vehicle for transporting the children.

Schedule: Monday through  Friday 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM. During the school year, the nanny will get the children off to school in the morning and be home for them after school. She can take personal time midday for her own activities as long as she completes some household tasks and is on call if one of the children is sick. A typical work week during the school year is 40 hours. During the summer and school breaks, the nanny will provide full day care and works 55 hours per week. The average weekly on an annual basis is 45.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with school age children is required and experience with children with special needs is preferred.

Description:  The role of the nanny is to provide quality care, safety, homework assistance, transportation, companionship, friendship and fun for the children. They all bus or walk to and from school. This is an active family, the children enjoy sports and they live in a great neighborhood. One of the boys has Down Syndrome and is non verbal so a nanny with some experience with special needs would be a plus. The nanny is also responsible for preparing a simple dinner for the children, the children's laundry, household linens laundry, light housework and an occasional errand.

Type of Position: Part Time, 30 hours per week for 48 weeks per year, 1440 hours annually

Start Date: ASAP

Location: St Paul, Cathedral Hill

Children: 2 boys who are 3 1/2 and almost 2 years old and an infant girl born in November

Compensation:  To $25 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Guaranteed pay for 30 hours per week for 48 weeks per year

Schedule: Several options are possible and will be worked out on a case by case basis according with the family's and nanny's shared needs. Simplest would be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Alternatively, the family can have a flexible schedule that changes week by week, that is pre-arranged a few months ahead of time.

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant to preschool age children, post secondary education preferred and the ideal would be someone who has raised children of her own but this is not required

Description: The ideal nanny will be interested in teaming up with the parents to raise their children to be thoughtful and caring individuals. This family enjoys an active lifestyle and outdoor activities. The parents foster open communication and honesty and. They are hoping to find a nanny to bond with their family for years to come. The boys currently attend Montessori school four mornings per week and this is within walking distance of the home. The boys are quite independent and interested in a variety of educational activities. The mother is home on maternity leave for four months is the primary caregiver for the baby during this time.
