Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position: Full Time

Start Date:  ASAP

Location: Dayton

Children: Infant due in October, 2 1/2 year old boy and 3 1/2 year old boy girl twins

Compensation:  Up to $23 per hour, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance, the family provides a vehicle for transporting the children

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 2:00 pm now through December. Starting in January, the hours will change/increase to 6:00 am to 3:30 pm. 

Additional Qualifiers: Nanny experience and experience caring for multiple young children, current flu and Tdap vaccination or willing to obtain, CPR and First Aid certified or willing to obtain

Description: Childcare involves getting the children up and dressed in the morning, making breakfast and driving the two older children to full time school. The 2 year old will start part time school in January. Nanny will care for him and the infant during the day. Until April, there will be another adult in the home in the morning so the nanny will not need to take all four children in the car during the winter.  There is another nanny who works 2-7:00 pm. They are a Christian family and this is heavily incorporated into daily life including prayers, Bible readings and discussion with books. The television is not on in the house and parents are seeking nanny who will be actively engaged with children with at least an hour of physical activity a day. They are seeking a nanny who will be with them long term and someone who is looking to make a career out of being a nanny. As a result the parents are very fair with the nannies and work hard to make sure they are happy in their position.

Type of Position: Full Time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday

Start Date:  December 2

Location: Deephaven

Children: 6 month old girl

Compensation:  Up to $22.50 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, schedule to be determined, they have some flexibility

Additional Qualifiers: Nanny and infant care experience, CPR certified or willing to obtain

Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to provide excellent care for the child. During naptimes, there is an expectation that the nanny will perform light housework and meal  prep. She will also need to let the dog out and potentially walk him.  Family is very important to them and they spend quite a bit of time with them.  This family is active and they enjoy exercise, their great neighborhood and getting out for walks.

Type of Position: Full Time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday

Start Date:  ASAP

Location: Eden Prairie

Children: 15 month old girl, 10 year old boy and 12 year old girl    The care is only for the 15 month old girl.

Compensation:  Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am, to 4:30 pm, slightly earlier or later hours may be required and advance notice would be given in these cases

Additional Qualifiers: Nanny and infant care experience

Description: The parents are seeking an active nanny who will provide attentive and loving care for their young child. It's important that she interact with and encourage the child's social, verbal and motor skills. The care required is primarily for the infant.  Both parents work from home on occasion in an office separate from the rest of the house. The family likes to get out when they can and play outside, take walks and ride bikes.

Type of Position: Part Time school year Monday through Thursday, 2:15 to 4:45 pm for at least 10-20- hours per week and 36 per week in the summer

Start Date:  September 3

Location: Edina

Children: 5, 8 and 10 year old boys

Compensation:  $22-to $30 per hour, depending on qualifications, duties and number of hours per week

Benefits: Paid holidays and PTO/sick pay

Schedule: Part Time school year Monday through Thursday, 2:15 to 4:45 pm for at least 10-20 hours per week, and 36 hours per week in the summer

Additional Qualifiers: Minimum of one year nanny experience with multiple children or background in education, own a safe reliable vehicle that can fit three boosters/car seats

Description:  This energetic family with three boys is looking for a creative energetic part time nanny during the school year who would ideally want to continue through the summer as well. The ideal candidate will enjoy leading creative play and homework while teaching manners, respect and self care skills. The boys love math/science, legos, card games, pretend play, reading, hiking, downhill skiing and swimming. The family does not do screen time during the week.

Type of Position: Full Time

Location: Excelsior

Children: Newborn and 2, 4 and 5 1/2 year old boys

Compensation:  Up to $27 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays and will contribute to the nanny's medical insurance, potential for annual bonus, a family vehicle is provided for any driving of the children,

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:00 pm

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny who has worked with multiple young children infant to young school age. The nanny must be comfortable working as a partner in parenting with the mother at home. Strong swimming skills, current vaccinations, current CPR or willing to obtain is also required.

College degree and background in early childhood development or teaching is preferred.

Description:  This is a great family that has employed nannies previously through our service. The parents are seeking a nanny with recent experience caring for 3 or more young active children. The parents desire a long term nanny who will provide excellent care and guidance for their sons and be an integrated part of a parenting relationship. They are looking for a nanny who is interested in child development and working with children to foster their intellectual and emotional development. The activities with the children are home based and focus on at home and neighborhood play. The family lives on a lake so strong swimming skills and vigilant water safety supervision are required. The parents like to maintain a routine for the children. The oldest attends kindergarten 4.5 days per week, four year old attends preschool 4 mornings per week and two year old attends preschool 2 mornings per week. This is a nice family to work with and a great job for a creative experienced nanny who enjoys keeping active and busy.

Type of Position: Full/Part Time, 36-40 hours per week, 30 hour guaranteed minimum

Start Date: October 28th

Location: Golden Valley

Children: 6 month old boy/girl twins and 2 1/2 year old boy

Compensation:  Up to $25 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, will consider a contribution to medical insurance, family vehicle provided for transporting the children

Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Approximately every 6th week the mother has a weekend shift so will need less week day child care and that would be a 30 hour week.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience and infant care experience, First Aid and CPR certified or willing to obtain

Description:  This young active family is seeking a nanny for the long term who will grow with their family.  The primary responsibilities for the nanny will be caring for the infants and 2 1/2 year old and providing a fun and nurturing environment. The parents are seeking a nanny who will engage the children in age appropriate physical and educational activities both in the home and outside the home. It's important that the nanny is a good communicator and passionate about caring for children.

Type of Position: Full Time, 35-45 hours per week

Start Date:  ASAP

Location: Minneapolis, near Lake Harriet

Children: 3 1/2 year old boy/girl triplets and an almost 6 year old girl

Compensation:  Up to $21 per hour, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance, the family provides a vehicle for transporting the children

Schedule: Primarily weekdays but possibly some weekend help needed, 35-45 hours per week, typical schedule would be 7:30/8:00 am to 4:30/5:00 pm. 

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for multiples and preschoolers, college educated, a background in early childhood education would be nice,

Description: If you enjoy caring for preschoolers, this job will keep you busy and active. The care is primarily for the triplets as the older girl is in full time school. The childcare duties include all care for the children, playing, reading, spending time outside, driving, taking them to activities and parks. The nanny will need to be flexible to accommodate the varying hours of the work. Either the mother or a part time summer nanny may be involved some days, so the nanny must be comfortable working with others, sharing tasks and a need to cooperate, communicate and work together. Household duties are related to the children  and household laundry. The parents want the nanny to be a part of their family.

Type of Position: Part Time, 15-20 hours per week

Start Date:  ASAP

Location: Minneapolis, Lowry Hill

Children: 18 month old boy and baby due in January

Compensation:  Up to $25 per hour, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: Paid holidays and paid time off when family travels, vehicle provided for transporting the children

Schedule: The ideal schedule is Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm but the parents could consider different days and up to 20 hours per week. They would appreciate if the nanny would be available to work on occasional nights and weekends.  

Additional Qualifiers: Infant and toddler age care experience, nanny experience

Description: A nanny who is warm, engaging , nurturing, energetic, organized, patient, kind and easy going is a good fit for this family. The family is seeking a long term nanny to care for their toddler son and eventually also the infant to be born in January. They would like the nanny to take their son to activities  outside the home (library, story time, parks etc.) and also read with him and provide an  intellectual/cultural enrichment. The home is located in short walking distance to Kenwood Park, Lake of the Isles and Walker Art Museum and Sculpture Garden, among other Minneapolis attractions. Household duties include laundry, preparation of healthy meals and light cleaning and tidying up. Both  parents are stay-at-home, with the mother managing the house and the father working from home.  The father's home office is on a different floor of the home from the main living floor.  The house has four large finished floors which allows plenty of space for everyone. They could consider a live in position for a truly exceptional nanny as the lower level is fully furnished with a large bedroom suite/living area, kitchenette and private bath. In addition to this nanny position, the family will separately hire a post-partum doula and night nurse for a few months after the second child is born in January to provide extra support.

Type of Position: Part Time, average 28-34 hours per week

Start Date:  Between mid/late October and January

Location: Minneapolis, near the river

Children: Twin 14  month old boys

Compensation:  Up to $34 per hour, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: None, willing to negotiate a compensation package for the right person

Schedule: Sunday 1:00 to 6:00 pm, Tuesday and Thursday 10:15 am to 4:15 pm, Wednesday 8:15 am to 4:30 pm and every other Friday 10:30 am to 3:30 pm or 8:15 am to 5:30 pm. The nanny could possibly work a Monday instead of Sunday but the parents would like some weekend coverage sometimes. 

Additional Qualifiers: Toddler/preschool age care experience, multiples experience preferred

Description: The boys are active, fun, curious and enjoy being outside in all weather. The parents are looking for a nanny who is attuned, playful, gentle, reliable, flexible, hard working, willing to be outside year round and informed in child development. The parents work hard to be good employers. They are seeking a nanny who will work with them for years to come and who will be invested in their boys and the success of their family/household. The family lives in a wonderfully walkable and beautiful area in Minneapolis. They like each other and their lives together.

Children: 5 year old boy and 19 month old girl, care is primarily for the 5 year old

Compensation:  Up to $30 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule: Monday through Friday, full time, family can be flexible on the schedule depending on the nanny

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for children with emotional and behavioral needs

Description: The parents are seeking a nanny who can help their son develop social and behavioral regulation skills as trained by a behavioral consultant. The nanny will work directly with the consultant. It's important that the nanny is very attentive and can take direction and learn new behavior management strategies. Clear and open communication is necessary.  Both  parents are at home most of the time; with the mother managing the house and working part time and the father working full time from a home office. It would be nice if the nanny could also at times also include their daughter in playing so mother can clean or organize.

Type of Position:  Part Time, 70-80 hours per month, family will guarantee minimum monthly hours. The family knows the schedule 1-4 months in advance.

Start Date: Flexible but no later than September 15

Location: Plymouth

Children: infant due mid August, 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 year old boys

Compensation: Up to $25 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid holidays and  vacation

Schedule: Part Time, week days, some shifts would be full days 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, some shifts start between 10-11:00 am and work to 5:00- 6:00 pm

Additional Qualifiers: Significant experience caring for infants,  First Aid and CPR certified or willing to obtain

Description:  This family is seeking a part time nanny who will provide fun active play and great care for the two boys and loving attentive care for the infant. The older boy will be in preschool three days per week so many times the care will just be for the toddler boy and the baby. The boys love to read, spend time outside, play with their toys and active play. They are a fairly laid back family and spend a lot of time at home when not working.

Type of Position: Evening and Weekend Nanny

Start Date:  ASAP or by Sept 1

Location: Wayzata

Children:   2 and 6 year old boys, infant due in early November

Compensation: To $25 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: PTO, paid holidays, contribution to medical insurance and eligible for annual bonus. The family provides a vehicle for transporting the children.  

Schedule: Typical schedule would be 30-35 hours per week, Wednesday through Friday 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturdays 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Sundays 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.  Potential for additional regular hours. Occasional travel and overnight care.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous childcare experience with infants, toddlers and school age children. College degree and background in early childhood development or teaching is preferred. The candidate should also be comfortable swimming with children and CPR certified or willing to obtain.

Description:  This active family is seeking a positive and dependable evening/weekend nanny to help care for their two young boys and baby on the way in the fall. They are looking for a candidate who is engaging, warm, nurturing, professional, organized, patient and kind.  The ideal candidate would be flexible and easy-going, and able to jump in and care for the children independently or serve as an extra set of hands alongside Mom or Dad. Duties would include: general childcare, playing, mealtime, bedtime, taking one or two kids to an activity or on an outing, and accompanying the family on outings. The candidate would also be able to assist with household tasks including tidying up the playroom and kid's rooms, loading/unloading dishwasher and tidying up the kitchen, folding children's laundry and getting organized for the week ahead.
