Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position:  Full time
Start Date: August
Location: Hopkins, near 169 and Minnetonka Blvd
Children:  5 and 7 year old boys
Compensation:  Up to $900 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  holidays and will contribute to medical insurance
Schedule:  Three days per week, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM and two days per week 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The family can be flexible on which days are longer and which are shorter to accommodate the nanny's preference.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous full time child care experience with  preschool and young school ages
Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who  is responsible, mature, a good role model and passionate about making kids their best. It's important to them that she hold the children accountable to rules and practicing safe behavior. The older boy is in kindergarten and the younger boy attends part time morning preschool. The nanny will need to provide transportation for them but both schools are within a few miles of the home. While the boys are in school, the family would appreciate help with basic household chores, grocery shopping, errands, children's laundry and simple dinner prep. This family lives in a great neighborhood with a large yard and the boys are active and enjoy outdoor play.
Pets: One small dog, hypoallergenic, non shedding

Type of Position: Full Time, Nanny/Household Manager

Start Date: August 16

Location: Minneapolis, Lake Calhoun

Children: 10 ˝ year old boy and 13 ˝ year old girl

Compensation: To $865 per week, depending on experience, flexibility and skills

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday and Wednesday 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday and Thursday 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Friday 12:00 to 6:00 PM. When school is not in session, start at 7:30 AM and either work longer days or have the day end at 6:00 PM. The family would be very excited if a nanny were willing to be open to taking the children to school in the morning and taking a break until picking them up after school and then work until 7-8:00 PM. The parents would appreciate if a nanny would be willing to shift hours or work extra hours when needed and they can plan this in advance. They would also like if the nanny were willing to stay overnight up to two times per year for up to 4 nights each time.

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny who enjoys working with school age children and is seeking a long term position. Previous household management experience is a plus and must own a reliable car for transporting two children.

Description: The parents are seeking a nanny who provides and encourages an environment in their home that is supportive and friendly. After school childcare is the nanny’s responsibility. Sometimes the children come home immediately after school but often they will be engaged in after school programs. Other responsibilities will include grocery shopping, errands doing family laundry, and preparing dinner. This family’s current nanny, referred by our service, has been with them for over seven years. She is leaving because she has completed her bachelor’s degree and will begin full time teaching in the fall. The parents have appreciated her willingness to adapt to their needs as the children have grown because of the positive working environment, close relationship with the family and love of the children.

Type of Position:  Full Time Monday-Thursday,  Nanny+Household Duties

Start Date:  Late August/early fall

Location:  Minneapolis,  Lake of the Isles

Children:  5 ˝ year old girl and 9 ˝ year old boy

Compensation:  To $950  per week, depending on qualifications, additional compensation for hours worked over 50

Benefits: Paid time off including vacation and sick days, and the family will contribute $100 per month to a Healthcare Savings Account

Schedule:  Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM plus 6 hours of evening and/or weekend child care to be arranged each week. The nanny does need to be able to stay overnight if both parents are travelling. When school is not in session, during holidays or vacation, the nanny may be asked to work different hours.

Additional Qualifiers: High school or college graduate with at least three years nanny/childcare/ teaching experience. Previous household management experience is a plus. Comfort with technology including iPhone, iPad calendar and other apps is a must. Own a reliable car for transporting two children and willingness to commit to at least one year of employment.

Description:  Seeking a mature, energetic, organized, take charge individual to help busy parents care for two school-aged children and manage the household. While childcare is the nanny’s primary responsibility, the children are in school for seven hours a day, so other responsibilities will include various household tasks and errands. Duties include before and after school childcare, homework supervision, transportation to and from school and activities, dinner preparation for the children, children’s laundry, errands, kitchen cleanup, and other tasks related to maintaining the household on behalf of the family.

Type of Position:  Part time, Live In, studio apartment provided in a remodeled carriage house
Start Date: Late August/early September
Location: Minneapolis, near the Walker 
Children:  11 year old girl
Compensation:  Negotiable
Benefits: Negotiable
Schedule:  Monday through Friday 7:15 to 8:30 AM and 3:00-4:15 to 7-8:00 PM,  and sometimes some hours on Saturday morning/afternoon. There will be a few weeks of overnight care required when the grandparents travel
Additional Qualifiers: Previous  child care experience with school age children
Description:  The child is an active and engaging 11 year old girl. She attends a school that specializes in helping children with learning disabilities and this has been great for her. She enjoys ice skating, acting, singing, dancing and clowning. The grandparents have been her guardians for three years. Primary duties of the nanny are to care the girl before and after school, transport her to school and/or activities, prepare her a snack or dinner and provide some homework supervision. The grandparents do like to travel a few weeks per years so then the nanny would need to stay overnight in the home and be responsible 24/7 for the child. She would however be in school during the day.

Type of Position:  Part time, 20 hours in two days
Start Date: Late July/early August
Location: Richfield and most likely moving to Edina
Children:  3 month and 3 year old girls and a 5 year old boy
Compensation:  Up to $23 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days
Schedule:  Two consecutive days; preferred is either Monday and Tuesday or Tuesday and Wednesday; 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant to preschool age children and multiple young children
Description:  The parents are looking for a kind hearted and patient individual. Child care is the primary responsibility which includes taking the children to preschool and activities. It is preferable that the nanny use her own car to transport the children and the family will reimburse for mileage but they may be able to provide a car.  This is an active family that enjoys getting outdoors.

Type of Position: Full time, four days per week, average 40 hours per week

Start Date: September
Location: St Paul
Children:  11 month old boy/girl twins
Compensation:  Up to $800  per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Monday through Thursday, average 40 hours per week, typically start between 7-8:00 AM and be done 5-6:00 PM, will know schedule 2-3 weeks in advance but need to be flexible on the start and end times
Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny, experience working with multiples is preferred. Care is also needed on one Saturday per month 6:00 AM to 12:00PM. It is preferred that the full time nanny work this also but it is not required. 
Description:   Most important is that the nanny provide loving, attentive and quality care for the children. Age appropriate developmental activities and creative play is important. This is single mother family and her schedule does vary somewhat. So, it's critical that the nanny is punctual and can flex her schedule as needed. This mother has used our temporary nanny service the summer and the nannies have enjoyed being in her home with the children.
Pets: One Great Dane and two cats, must be comfortable with pets in the home

Children:  3 1/2 year old girl and 5 year old boy
Compensation:  Up to $20  per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  paid holidays, paid sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Monday and Wednesday 6:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Tuesday 12:30 PM to 6:30 PM Thursday and Friday 7:00 AM to 5:00 pm
Additional Qualifiers: Experienced career nanny with 5+ years of nanny experience.
Description:   The parents are seeking an experienced  nanny who will love on the kids all day, help shape them into caring and productive members of society and make it easy/comfortable for them to go to work every day. Someone who is organized, takes initiative and can set her own day will thrive in this household. The current nanny of 2+ years is an integral part of the family but due to the family moving, she no longer can continue with them. This will be transition for all but the parents are optimistic that there is another great nanny out there for their family. The children enjoy playing outdoors. They attend part time preschool and are involved in lessons and activities outside the home.
Pets: One Yellow Lab and one garage cat

Type of Position:  Full Time, Household Manager/Nanny
Start Date:  Late summer, could consider an earlier start
Location:  Wayzata
Children:  10 year old girl and 18 year old twin boys (in college in the fall)
Compensation:  $800+  per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Two weeks paid vacation and holidays, willing to consider a contribution to medical, the family provides a vehicle for transporting the younger child and running errands
Schedule:  The schedule is typically as follows: Monday and Wednesday 12:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday and Friday 7:00 AM to 5-6:30 PM and Thursday 12:00 to 9:30 PM. The parents do some travelling and then the nanny would need to stay overnight.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with school age children, experience with household management, mature with good time management skills
Description:  The girl who is just finishing up 4th grade needs to be picked up from school, escorted to activities and help with homework. She is a type 1 diabetic so nanny will need to learn how to manage this. Household management duties to be performed while she is in school include cooking, shopping, errands, light housekeeping and laundry/ironing. The parents do have  busy schedules and occasional week night events. The father has a flexible schedule and is around so he and the nanny work together daily. This family has had the same nanny for 17 years. Her job has evolved from nanny to home manager. She moved to Minnesota recently with the family. However, she wants to be closer to home and her family.
