Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position: Part Time, three days, 36 hours, every other week

Start Date: October

Location: Blaine

Children: 8 month old girl

Compensation:  $20 + per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Every other week, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, there may be occasional  additional hours on the off week but this can be flexible

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant and toddler age children, college education, background in teaching or nursing is preferred

Description: To put the needs, safety and quality care of the child first is the nanny's primary responsibility. It's important that the nanny engage her in age appropriate play, daily reading, outdoor play  and provide activities that will enhance her growth and development. This is an easy going family that loves spending time together. The father works in a home office in the lower level and will not be involved with the child during the day. The parents would like the nanny to be current on vaccinations and annual flu shot.

Type of Position: Full Time, 45 to 50 hours

Start Date: Late September/early October

Location: Edina

Children: 3 month old girl and 2 year old boy

Compensation: Up to $1000 per week, depending on qualifications and the total number of hours

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The exact schedule and number of hours is still to be determined

Additional Qualifiers: Experience with infant and toddler age children, preference for experience potty training a toddler

Description: This family is seeking an active nanny who will plan and do outdoor and community activities with the children. It's important that the nanny is active, energetic and will engage the children in learning  activities. They have an active toddler and young infant so someone with experience keeping a very close eye on both children is important. They would like the nanny to participate in play groups with other nannies. Assistance with some light housekeeping is required and some help with laundry and  preparing meals would be ideal.

Type of Position: Full Time, 40 hours in four days

Start Date: November 27

Location: Maple Grove

Children: 2 year old twin boys

Compensation: Up to $20 per, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance and most likely can provide a car for nanny to transport children

Schedule: Tuesday through Friday, 7:15 AM and 5:15 PM

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny and/or daycare experience, experience with multiple toddlers required and education in early childhood development/child psychology is preferred

Description: Seeking a nanny who will laugh, play, sing, be silly, be creative and have fun! The day should include reading, art projects, outdoor play and exploration in a safe nurturing environment. The parents would like the nanny to try and have at least one outing per week  Maintaining a schedule and naps and preparing healthy snacks and meals is important.

Type of Position: Full Time, 33-35 hours per week, through September 2018

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Minneapolis, Southwest

Children: 3 month, 4 year and 7 year old boys 

Compensation: Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days

Schedule: Monday through Friday, start at 8:30 or 9:00 AM  and work until 3:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and until 4:30 PM on Wednesday and Friday

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant and older children

Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to  provide excellent care for the infant. The two older children are in school and would only be home when school is closed or if one is sick. This is a laidback family that enjoys spending time together and getting outdoors. The older boys love to create so the playroom is filled with art supplies and Legos. Mom works from a home office that is upstairs and fairly removed from the rest of the house. The parents are hoping to find a nanny who feels at home in their house, enjoys spending time with their children and can relate to them as an equal.   The parents would like the nanny to be current on vaccinations and annual flu shot.

Type of Position: Part Time, Tuesday and Thursday

Start Date: Mid October

Location: Minneapolis, South

Children: 3 month old boy and 2 1/2 year old girl

Compensation: Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, occasionally may need to start at 6:30 AM, would be great if the nanny is available to work one Friday per month but this is not required

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant and active toddler age children

Description: This family enjoys the outdoors and it's important that the nanny take the children out, weather permitting. There are parks and playgrounds, many within walking distance of the home. The parents are seeking a nanny who is smart, active, fun and will positively impact their children. The father works from a home office when not travelling so nanny must be comfortable with this. The parents would like the nanny to be current on vaccinations and annual flu shot.

Type of Position:  Full Time Monday-Thursday,  Nanny+Household Duties

Start Date:  September

Location:  Minneapolis,  Lake of the Isles

Children:  5 ˝ year old girl and 9 ˝ year old boy

Compensation:  Up to $950  per week, depending on qualifications, additional compensation for hours worked over 45

Benefits: Paid time off including vacation and sick days, and the family will contribute $100 per month to a Healthcare Savings Account

Schedule:  Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM plus 5 hours of evening child care per week to be arranged as far in advance as possible. The family can also consider a split shift if the nanny would prefer this.  The nanny does need to be able to stay overnight if both parents are travelling. When school is not in session, during holidays or vacation, the nanny may be asked to work different hours.

Additional Qualifiers: High school or college graduate with at least three years nanny/childcare/ teaching experience. Previous household management experience is a plus. Comfort with technology including iPhone, iPad calendar and other apps is a must. Own a reliable car for transporting two children and willingness to commit to at least one year of employment.

Description:  Seeking a mature, energetic, organized, take charge individual to help busy parents care for two school-aged children and manage the household. While childcare is the nanny’s primary responsibility, the children are in school for seven hours a day, so other responsibilities will include various household tasks and errands. Duties include before and after school childcare, homework supervision, transportation to and from school and activities, dinner preparation for the children, children’s laundry, errands, kitchen cleanup, and other tasks related to maintaining the household on behalf of the family.

Type of Position: Full Time

Start Date: Open, whenever they find the right nanny

Location: Mound

Children: 18 month old boy/girl twins

Compensation: Up to $800 per week, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Average 40 hours per week; both parents work shift work and the nanny's schedule will be made on a 2 month basis. It will include some mornings, some afternoons, some evenings and some weekends.

Additional Qualifiers: Several years of nanny experience, experience with multiples would be a plus

Description: The parents are seeking a loving, caring, honest and dependable nanny to help them raise their children when they are at work.  Duties include reading with the children, playing games, going for walks and light house cleaning/tidying up after the children. It's important that the nanny enjoys being outdoors and can use her own car to take the children out in the community; car seats are provided.

Location: Plymouth

Children: 3 month old girl

Compensation: Negotiable, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Additional Qualifiers: Several years of nanny experience, infant care experience, CPR certified, current on all vaccinations including for flu

Description: The primary focus of this job is to provide excellent care for an infant who was born premature. The parents want to minimize any risks to her health in her first year so the job will be in the home with no outings except walks outdoors. It's important that the nanny read to her, play and talk and work on motor skills. They also would like some help with laundry, cooking and light housekeeping (they do have house cleaners).

Start Date:  October

Location: Wayzata

Children: 3 month and 3 year old girls

Compensation: Up to $900 per week, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM are the core hours, occasionally the nanny may be asked to stay later than 4:00w with advance notice, also very likely that  there will be days that the nanny may be able to leave before 4:00 PM

Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infant to preschool age children, previous nanny experience or other child care experience, experience caring for two young children of nanny experience, infant care experience, CPR certified, current on all vaccinations including for flu

Description: Providing excellent care and fun, creative engaging activities for the two girls is the nanny's primary responsibility. The parents are also seeking a nanny who is comfortable transporting the children to activities outside the home. This is an active family who prefers to be out doing things as much as possible. they have successfully employed a nanny though our service for three years.
