Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position:  Full time, 4.5 days
Start Date: August
Location: Edina
Children:  2, 3 and 7 years old
Compensation:  Up to $20  per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Monday through Thursday 7:15 AM to 3:30 or 4:00 PM and 7:15 AM to Noon on Fridays. There may be rare occasions that the nanny would need to work on a Friday afternoon. 
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with toddler to school age children, previous nanny experience, and some education in child development, current CPR or willing to obtain
Description:  This is an active family with three energetic boys. They are seeking an energetic, fun and loving nanny who is a self-starter, takes initiative and is a strong communicator. The boys are in school, preschool and some youth classes so the nanny must enjoy doing outings and various activities with the boys. During non-school days, the family looks to the nanny to plan outings and arrange fun-filled days for the boys. This family has previously employed a nanny through our service. They are looking for a long-term relationship with a nanny who wants to do this as a career and is looking for a family to grow with.
Pets: None currently but they do plan to get a dog

Children: 3 month old boy twins
Compensation:  Up to $900  per week, depending on qualifications

Schedule:  Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny with preference for a nanny with experience with twins, current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain
Description:  The nanny's primary responsibility is to create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which the children can grow and thrive. She also would be responsible for their meals, bathing, organizing toys, laundry, maintaining baby logs and reading and playtime. Both parents work full time. Work keeps them busy but they like to spend time with extended families and friends.

Type of Position:  Full time
Start Date: Spring/they do need a nanny to start no later that end of the school year
Location: Hopkins, near 169 and Minnetonka Blvd
Children:  4 and 6 year old boys
Compensation:  Up to $900 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  holidays and will contribute to medical insurance
Schedule:  Three days per week, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM and two days per week 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The family can be flexible on which days are longer and which are shorter to accommodate the nanny's preference.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous full time child care experience with  preschool and young school ages
Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who  is responsible, mature, a good role model and passionate about making kids their best. It's important to them that she hold the children accountable to rules and practicing safe behavior. The older boy is in kindergarten and the younger boy attends part time morning preschool. The nanny will need to provide transportation for them but both schools are within a few miles of the home. While the boys are in school, the family would appreciate help with basic household chores, grocery shopping, errands, children's laundry and simple dinner prep. This family lives in a great neighborhood with a large yard and the boys are active and enjoy outdoor play.
Pets: One small dog, hypoallergenic, non shedding
 

Type of Position:  Full Time
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Minneapolis, South
Children:  3.5 year old girl and 6.5 year old boy
Compensation:  To $850  per week, depending on qualifications and number of hours per week
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days
Schedule:  Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. If a nanny would like to work 35-40 hours, they could consider this through the summer of 2018 but then hours would increase to 45 per week in the fall of 2018.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for preschool and school age children, college level classes in education or related field is preferred and they would love to find a nanny with experience or interest in caring for a highly functioning child with Autism.
Description:  Nanny's primary responsibility is care for the preschool girl before and after preschool and the older boy before and after school and both children full days in the summer.  While both children are in school (about 2 hours per day) the family would like help with laundry, dinner prep or an errand. Both children attend school very close to the home and are involved in classes and activities. The older boy has mild Autism spectrum disorder and the parents value finding someone who can address both his academic and social/emotional needs. It's important that the nanny has a safe and reliable car. In good weather, she can walk the children to school. They enjoy outings to parks, libraries, museums etc. As a family, they enjoy reading, outdoor exercise, visiting with neighbors and attending classes. The father will be on a sabbatical next school year and will spend some time working from home so the nanny needs to be comfortable with this. This family has successfully employed a nanny through our service and she has had a very positive experience, says they are a great family to work with.

Type of Position:  Full Time, 40 hours per week average

Start Date:  June 12
Location: Plymouth
Children:  9 year old boy and 7 year old girl
Compensation:  To $20  per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays and will consider a contribution to nanny's medical insurance
Schedule:  This job is an average of 40 hours per week over a 4 week period.   The start time is 6:45 AM and end time between 6:00-6:30 pm, three or four days per week. The nanny will have every Friday off and every other Thursday off.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience, post secondary education is preferred but not required, nanny who is seeking a long term position
Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who will provide safe, loving and quality care for their children. During the summer and non school days, the nanny will be responsible for all childcare. During the school year, the nanny will be responsible for before and after school care, afterschool activities and homework. The nanny should be able to adapt between spending time with the kids on non school days and household management duties when the kids are in school. This is a busy family and the kids are involved in many activities. They have lots of neighborhood friends. Despite a busy lifestyle, the family enjoys dinner together,  spending time at home and outdoors and playing with the dog. The father will be in and out some weeks and the nanny must be comfortable working in this environment. They have employed the same nanny through our service for 6 1/2 years and are hoping to have another wonderful long term relationship with a new nanny.

Type of Position:  Full Time, average 40 hours per week, variable schedule, see more details below
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: St Paul, Summit Avenue
Children:  11 month old girl, 10 year old girl and 12 1/2 year old boy
Compensation:  To $800  per week, depending on qualifications (additional compensation for hours over 40)
Benefits: Paid time off and paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Typically the nanny will work Monday through Friday weekdays, but there is some flexibility required depending on the school year schedule. She will typically be done by 6:00 PM. During the school year, on Monday and Tuesday, she will work 4-5 hours in the afternoon and 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. In the summer, the hours could be full days five days per week up to 50 hours. The nanny will know schedule well in advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infant and school age children, reliable, self starter
Description:  This is a two household situation with the older children spending a part of each week with each of the parents. They have had a nanny for many years so the parents are skilled in coordinating amongst themselves with a nanny in order to make the two household situation relatively easy. They live very close to each other and communicate well. When the older children are with their father on Monday and Tuesday, the nanny will work afternoons during the school year and the care is only for the older children. Then they spend the remainder of the week days with their mother. The infant care is required only at the mother's home on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. A nanny who is open minded, patient, well organized and flexible will be a great fit for this family. It is important that the nanny is comfortable taking the kids on outings and spending time outdoors at nearby parks and at the country club pool.
Pets: Two small dogs, one goes between the homes with the older children

Type of Position:  Full Time, Household Manager/Nanny
Start Date:  Late May/early June 2017
Location: Wayzata
Children:  10 year old girl and  17  year old twin boys
Compensation:  $800+ per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, willing to consider a contribution to medical, the family provides a vehicle for transporting the younger child and running errands etc
Schedule:  The schedule is typically as follows: Monday and Wednesday 12:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday and Friday 7:00 AM to 5-6:30 PM and Thursday 12:00 to 9:30 PM. They can be somewhat flexible on this. The parents do some travelling and then the nanny would need to stay overnight.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with school age children, experience with household management, mature with good time management skills
Description:  The two older boys are independent and basically just need meals and supervision overnight if both parents are gone. The 4th grade girl needs to be picked up from school, escorted to activities and help with homework. She is a Type 1 diabetic so nanny will need to learn how to help manage this. Household management duties to be performed while she is in school include cooking, shopping, errands, light housekeeping and laundry/ironing. The parents do have busy schedules and occasional week night events. The father has a flexible schedule and is around so he and the nanny work together daily. This family has had the same nanny for 17 years. Her job has evolved from nanny to a home manger and caregiver. She moved to Minnesota recently with the family. However, she wants to be closer to home and her family.
Pets: Two small dogs and they plan to get a larger one
