Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position: Full Time, average 40 hours per week

Start Date:   August 17

Location: Edina

Children:   1 year old boy, 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 year old girls and 7 year old boy, nanny care is for the two youngest children

Compensation:  $800 per week

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Monday through Friday, nanny must be able to start between 7-8:00 am and work until 4-5:00 pm. Some days may be 6-8 hours and rarely may be up to 10 hours. Tuesday and Thursday are typically shorter days and done by 2-3:00 pm and some Fridays are flexible and the nanny could be off or work a half day. One week per month is Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5-5:30 pm.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience with multiple children, own a car that could accommodate 2-3 children but very rarely would need to do this

Description: The This is a fun active friendly family. The parents hope to find a warm caring nanny to care for their little ones. The  primary responsibility of the nanny is to provide quality loving care for the two youngest children. Priority is keeping the children happy, safe and provide them with nutritious meals. The 4 year old girl is full time preschool and the older boy in full day school and summer camps.  The family enjoys going to the park, playing in the yard and with fun neighbors. They have a big toy room for fun at home play.

Type of Position: Full Time, 42 hours per week

Start Date:  End of August

Location: Edina

Children:   10 month old boy, 6 year old girl and 8 1/2 year old boy

Compensation: Up to $850 per week, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience with infant/toddler and school age children

Description: The primary responsibility of the nanny is to provide quality loving care for the younger boy. The two older children will already be out the door to school when the nanny arrives and they are home at 2:50. The nanny would care for them after school. When the younger boy is napping, the family would appreciate help with household tasks to "keep the house moving". Mother works from a home office but is often off site. This is a fun easy going family that enjoys lots of activities, primarily sports. A caring no-nonsense nanny would be a good fit for them.

Type of Position: Full or Part Time, 30-42 hours per week, see schedule options below

Start Date:  End of August

Location: Edina

Children:   12 year old boy and girl twins and 16 year old girl

Compensation: Up to $22 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Options are: Monday through Friday, 12:00 to 6:00 pm, 30 hours

Two days per week start at 7:30 am and work until 6:00 pm and three days 12:00 to 6:00 pm, 39 hours

Three days per week start at 8:00 am and work until 6:00 pm and two days 12:00 to 6:00pm, 42 hours

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny and household management experience with school age children. College education and/or teaching experience is a plus.

Description: This is a great family that has hired several nannies through our service over the years. The parents are seeking a nanny who can ensure a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment for their school-aged children. They also need help with management for their household with duties to include meal preparation, grocery shopping, errands, organizing house and play dates and activities.  It's important that the nanny is mature, energetic and enthusiastic and can partner with the parents to guide the children in their social/emotional development. Transporting the two younger children to activities in the afternoon is a big part of the job and the family reimburses standard per mile compensation.

Type of Position: Part Time, 21 hours in three days with option for additional part time hours

Start Date: September 4

Location: Edina

Children:   1 1/2 year old girl and two boys who are 3 1/2 and almost 7 years old 

Compensation: Up to $25,000 annually ($22+ per hour) depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Monday and Thursday 12:45 to 6:00 pm and Tuesday 7:30 am to 6:00 pm for total of 21 hours. There is an option for additional part time hours on Wednesday and Friday if the nanny is interested.

Additional Qualifiers: Five + years of nanny experience, ideally a college degree, must own a safe vehicle that can accommodate three car seats (one is a booster)

Description:  On Monday and Thursday, the nanny will pick the two younger children up at preschool, come home, have lunch and nap and then late afternoon meet the older boy at the bus stop which is close to the family's home. Then it's play time until the parents get home. On Tuesday, nanny prepares breakfast and gets old boy to school and the two younger children are home all day. This family has had two long term nannies who both have become very close with the children and easily acclimated to being in their home. The children work best on a planned schedule, with positive approach parenting, and minimal screen time. This is a very close family and parents prioritize time with the children and spending time together as a family. They are a positive, outgoing, social, active and involved family who looks forward to welcoming a new nanny!

Type of Position: Part Time, average of 25 hours in three days

Start Date: Mid to late August

Location: Edina

Children: 2 month old girl,  20 months old and 3 year old boys  

Compensation: $20 per hour

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Three days per week, total hours would be between 20-30 hours per week with an average of 25. Some days are 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and some are 6:00 am to 1:00 pm and the days the nanny is needed will vary from week to week. The schedule is known 1-3 months in advance. Additional hours required one weekend per month.

Additional Qualifiers: Healthy, mature and previous experience working with young infant and toddler age children, current on vaccinations and okay with annual flu vaccination. 

Description:  Child care, meal prep, children's laundry and engaging the boys in age appropriate activities are the expected duties. The nanny would often be caring for the children while one parent is also home. There  will be extended family, from time to time, visiting for weeks to months during which the nanny will still work her regular hours. The older boy will be starting preschool in the fall which is one block from the home and he will need to be walked to and from. There is no driving required.

Start Date: September/Flexible

Location: Excelsior

Children: 9 month old girl,  2 1/2  year old boy and 4 1/2 year old girl  

Compensation: To $22 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, medical insurance contribution and a family vehicle provided for any driving of children

Schedule: Tuesday and Wednesday 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, Thursday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny comfortable with infant to preschool age children, CPR trained

Description:  Child care is the primary focus of this job.  The parents are seeking a nanny who will provide a nurturing, fun, creative and educational experience for the children in their home. The older girl may attend part time preschool. The children like to play outside at home or at the park and swim in the lake in the summer. This is a great job for someone who is seeking to have three day weekends.

Start Date:  August 1 is the ideal but they can consider later in August

Location: Minneapolis, near Downtown

Children:   3 month old boy

Compensation: Up to $800 per week, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, will consider a contribution to medical insurance, off street parking

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience  with infants, preference for a nanny with training in Montessori teaching

Description: This family lives in a condo near downtown Minneapolis. Child care for the infant is the primary responsibility of the nanny. Most important is to care for his physical needs and provide quality loving care and age appropriate play and activities for him. Outdoor play, as the baby gets older and weather permits, is important and there are play areas on the condo property. There is an older boy but he will be attending full time child care outside the home and the mother will drive him.  The parents value cultural diversity and are very open to a nanny who is not from the US. The parents are very family oriented and make sure to spend all of their time that they are not at work with their sons. They enjoy the outdoors and taking their sons to various activities around the Twin Cities and reading and play at home. There is no driving required.

Location: Minneapolis, near Lake Harriet

Children:   Two boys who are 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 years old

Compensation: Up to $960 per week, depending on qualifications

Description:  A nanny who can provide a balance of structure and free play to foster routine but also creativity and natural learning moments will thrive in this job. It's important that the nanny is able to provide learning experiences and teach love, kindness and respect for others, self, community and the environment. The parents have very demanding jobs but are also very committed to their children. Location: Minnetonka

Children:   4 month old girl and two year old boy

Compensation: Up to $800 per week, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Monday through Friday, eight hours per day; typically Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience  with infant and toddler age children, current CPR or willing to obtain,  organized proactive and a self starter,  possibly willing to travel with the family and willing to spend weekends at the house with the children,

Description: This family is looking for a long term nanny to grow with their family.  Child care is the primary responsibility of the nanny. The parents are seeking a nanny who will play and engage the children in age appropriate activities and get outdoors in good weather. There will be some driving involved. When the children are napping, the family would appreciate assistance with light housework and simple dinner prep for the family. This family has successfully employed a nanny before through our service.

Type of Position: Full Time

Start Date:  August 19 would be the ideal but they can consider nannies who can't start until later August

Location: St Louis Park

Children:  10 month old boy  

Compensation: Up to $1050 per week

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Approximate start and end times are Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. The job will be a minimum of 45 hours per week and will likely be at least 50 weekly hours. Both parents are starting new jobs so the exact needs may change.

Additional Qualifiers: Minimum of 10 years previous child care experience, experienced with both infants and older children, fluent English speaker, highly reliable

Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who will grow with their family. Currently, they want someone to love their son and encourage his development within a safe and nurturing environment. Primary duties include all care for him, tidying up after him, his laundry and occasional child related errands. It's important that the nanny be enthusiastic about reading with him and driving him to classes and activities during the week that are enriching.  Occasional simple family meal prep would be appreciated.

Type of Position: Part Time, 24 hours in three days

Start Date: August/Flexible

Location: St Paul, St Anthony Park

Children: 3 month old girl and 4 year old girls  

Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays,

Schedule: Three days per week; the ideal would be Monday Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. However the family is willing to consider other days/times.

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny with infant care experience, also experience with preschool age

Description:  Care for the infant is the primary focus of this job.  She is breastfeed so will be fed pumped breast milk and they use cloth diapers. The parents would like a nanny who can help them develop a good sleep and feeding routine. The older girl is in preschool so will be home later afternoons and non school days. Her preschool is 1/2 mile from home and nanny will need to pick her and it's walk able in good weather. The family enjoys being outside. Family meals and healthy eating is important to them. The parents both work to keep their busy lives as simple as possible; family time on weekends, keeping good sleep routines and maintaining an orderly and clutter free house. They limit TV time and prefer no TV for the baby for at least two years.
