Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position: Full Time, 37 hours per week

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Edina

Children:   3 1/2 year old twin girls

Compensation: Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday and Friday, 12:00 to 5:00 pm  and  Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience

Description: The primary responsibility of the nanny is to provide excellent care of the girls. They attend preschool every day. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the nanny will take them and pick up and on Monday and Friday the parents will take them and nanny pick them up. During the hours that the girls are in school, the parents would like the nanny to help with some light housework, simple basic meal prep for the family dinner and some errands. This is an active family that has a full schedule of fun activities and being outside.

Type of Position: Part Time, 30-35 hours per week

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Edina

Children:   12 year old boy and girl twins and 16 year old girl

Compensation: Up to $22 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 12:00 to 6:00 pm for 30 hours. If the nanny would like up to 35 hours, they can add more hours on one or two days per week.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny and household management experience with school age children. College education and/or teaching experience is a plus.

Description: This is a great family that has hired several nannies through our service over the years. The parents are seeking a nanny who can ensure a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment for their school-aged children. They also need help with management for their household with duties to include meal preparation, grocery shopping, errands, organizing house and play dates and activities.  It's important that the nanny is mature, energetic and enthusiastic and can partner with the parents to guide the children in their social/emotional development. Transporting the two younger children to activities in the afternoon is a big part of the job and the family reimburses standard per mile compensation.

Type of Position: Part Time, 21 hours in three days with option for additional part time hours

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Edina

Children:   1 1/2 year old girl and two boys who are 3 1/2 and almost 7 years old 

Compensation: Up to $25,000 annually ($22+ per hour) depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Monday and Thursday 12:45 to 6:00 pm and Tuesday 7:30 am to 6:00 pm for total of 21 hours. There is an option for additional part time hours on Wednesday and Friday if the nanny is interested.

Additional Qualifiers: Five + years of nanny experience, ideally a college degree, must own a safe vehicle that can accommodate three car seats (one is a booster)

Description:  On Monday and Thursday, the nanny will pick the two younger children up at preschool, come home, have lunch and nap and then late afternoon meet the older boy at the bus stop which is close to the family's home. Then it's play time until the parents get home. On Tuesday, nanny prepares breakfast and gets old boy to school and the two younger children are home all day. This family has had two long term nannies who both have become very close with the children and easily acclimated to being in their home. The children work best on a planned schedule, with positive approach parenting, and minimal screen time. This is a very close family and parents prioritize time with the children and spending time together as a family. They are a positive, outgoing, social, active and involved family who looks forward to welcoming a new nanny!

Type of Position: Part Time, average of 30 hours in three days

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Edina

Children: 2 month old girl,  20 months old and 3 year old boys  

Compensation: $20 per hour

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Three days per week, total hours would average 30 hours per week. Some days are 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and some are 6:00 am to 1:00 pm and the days the nanny is needed will vary from week to week. The schedule is known 1-3 months in advance. Additional hours required one weekend per month.

Additional Qualifiers: Healthy, mature and previous experience working with young infant and toddler age children, current on vaccinations and okay with annual flu vaccination. 

Description:  Child care, meal prep, children's laundry and engaging the boys in age appropriate activities are the expected duties. The nanny would often be caring for the children while one parent is also home. There  will be extended family, from time to time, visiting for weeks to months during which the nanny will still work her regular hours. The older boy will be starting preschool in the fall which is one block from the home and he will need to be walked to and from. There is no driving required.

Start Date: December and the family is flexible to consider an earlier start date

Location: Excelsior

Children: 1, 3 and 5 year old boys   

Compensation: To $22 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, will contribute to nanny's medical insurance, and a family vehicle is provided for any driving of children

Schedule: Monday through Thursday 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, with potential for some additional evening hours

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny comfortable with infant to preschool/ young school age children, strong swimmer, comfortable working as a partner in parenting with mother at home, current flu vaccination and current CPR or willing to obtain and the family will pay for the class

Description:  This great family has successfully employed a nanny through our service for three years. As she leaves to start her own family, the parents are seeking another long term nanny to provide excellent care and guidance for the children and be an integrated part of a parenting partnership.  Both of the older boys attend daily preschool. The activities with the children are home based and focus on at home and neighborhood  play. The family lives on a lake so strong swimming skills and vigilant water safety supervision are required.  The parents like to maintain a routine for the children and the two older boys attend part time preschool and weekly swimming lessons.  This is a very nice family to work with and a great job for someone who is seeking to have three day weekends.

Type of Position: Full Time, 40 hours in four days

Start Date:  January

Location: Minneapolis, Downtown Mill District

Children:   3 month old

Compensation: Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule: Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm or the family can be flexible on which four days the nanny would like to work as their is grandparent who will care for the baby one day per week.

Description:  The parents are looking for a nanny to join their family and care for their new baby who is arriving in October. It is most important to them that they find a nanny who can help them take best care of their child. They would like someone who truly enjoys and has experience working with infants and would consider that a priority. In addition to caring for the child, some light help for the family would be ideal when/if time allows so as to maximize the quality time the parents can spend with their child. Their condo has floor to ceiling windows with lots of natural light and is just across the street from Gold Medal Park. They live very close to the 35W/Washington Ave exit and underground parking is provided for the nanny.

Type of Position: Full Time, 40 hours, Monday-Thursday, Nanny + Household Duties

Start Date:  ASAP

Location: Minneapolis, near Lake of the Isles

Children:   6 1/2 year old girl and 10 1/2 year old boy

Compensation: $1000 per week, depending on qualifications and experience. Eligible for a year-end bonus. Nanny will be given the option to earn additional income while caring for the children if both parents travel overnight, which may happen twice a year for 4-5 days at a time.

Benefits: Paid time off including vacation and sick days, and the family will contribute $100 per month to a Healthcare Savings Account

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Additional Qualifiers: High school or college graduate with at least four years nanny/childcare/teaching experience. Previous household management a plus. Comfort with technology including iPhone, iPad calendar and other apps is important. Own a reliable care for transporting two children.

Description: Seeking a mature, energetic, organized take-charge individual to help busy parents care for two school-aged children and help manage the household. While childcare is the nanny's primary responsibility, the children are in school during the day, so other responsibilities will include various household tasks and errands. Primary duties include before and after school childcare, homework supervision, transportation to and from school and activities, dinner preparation for the children, errands, kitchen and play-area cleanup, working with parents to manage the children's schedule, and other tasks related to maintaining the household on behalf of the family.

Location: Minneapolis, near Lake Harriet

Children:   6 month old boy and 2 1/2 year old girl

Compensation: Up to $900 per week, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday through Friday typically 7:45 am to 4:45 pm. Average of 45 hours per week. The schedule may vary with some end times being closer to 4:00 and some being closer to 5:30/6:00. About six weeks per year, the start time will be 6:30 am.

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny with a background in early childhood education/development if possible.

Description:  The parents are seeking a long term nanny to start in October when their current nanny leaves to start her own family. An energetic, loving, fun nanny who can be somewhat flexible on the schedule and set limits in a loving manner  is a good fit for this busy family with two parents who work long hours. They have had two excellent nannies who have become part of their family and are very grateful for what these nannies have done for them.  The job involves care both in the home, getting outdoors and activities in and outside the home. The nanny is not required to transport children in her own car.

Description:  The child is a very curious, content and peaceful baby who loves cuddling and parents are seeking a nanny to provide excellent care for her. They are looking for someone who is kind, gentle, generous, reliable, flexible and open minded. The baby is exclusively breast fed and the family uses natural/ organic products including cloth diapers and wipes. In addition to childcare, the family would like help with doing the child's laundry, family linens once per week and simple dinner prep 2-3 times per week.

Location: Minneapolis, West River Pkwy

Children: 4 month old twin boys  

Compensation: To $25 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule: Every Wednesday 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, every other Friday 9:30 am to 6:00 pm and ideally every Saturday 10:00 am t0 2:00 pm. They are open to the nanny working three Saturdays per month and a nanny who has slightly different availability than noted in the schedule.

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny with infant care experience, ideally experience with multiples, some college or college degree preferred.

Description:  Care for the children is the nanny's primary responsibility. It's important that the nanny interact with the children in a positive and engaging way, record activity during the day and communicate with the parents daily. In addition, they would like the nanny to do small loads of the boys' laundry, wash bottles and keep space tidy. The parents are down to earth and have good senses of humor. They are looking for a nanny who can bring their own experience but also respect their wishes for care of their sons. Someone who is warm, flexible, patient and motivated would fit well with them. It's also important that the nanny is kind to the dog.

Children:   1 1/2 and 5 1/2 year old boys 

Compensation: To $25 per hour, depending on qualifications .

Schedule: 35-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, daytime and evening hours. Exact schedule to be determined with the candidate. Occasional weekend, overnight and travel care.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous childcare or teaching experience with toddler and school age children. College degree and background in early childhood development is preferred. The candidate should also be comfortable swimming with children and CPR certified or willing to obtain.

Description: The parents are seeking a long-term, dependable nanny to provide excellent care for their two young boys. The ideal candidate would be engaging and fun, warm and nurturing, responsible and organized, and flexible with a positive attitude. The candidate would also be interested in child development and excited about working with children to foster their intellectual and emotional development. The job duties would also include managing household duties related to childcare. The older child attends Kindergarten during the days. The nanny's duties would include taking the children to school/classes and arranging activities and outings. The family has a vehicle for the nanny to use to transport the children. The mother works part-time from a home office.

Location: St Paul, St Anthony Park

Children: 3 month old girl and 4 year old girls  

Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule: Three days per week; the ideal would be Monday Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. However the family is willing to consider other days/times.

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny with infant care experience, also experience with preschool age

Description:  Care for the infant is the primary focus of this job.  She is breastfeed so will be fed pumped breast milk and they use cloth diapers. The parents would like a nanny who can help them develop a good sleep and feeding routine. The older girl is in preschool so will be home later afternoons and non school days. Her preschool is 1/2 mile from home and nanny will need to pick her and it's walk able in good weather. The family enjoys being outside. Family meals and healthy eating is important to them. The parents both work to keep their busy lives as simple as possible; family time on weekends, keeping good sleep routines and maintaining an orderly and clutter free house. They limit TV time and prefer no TV for the baby for at least two years.
