Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position: Full Time, 35 hours per week

Start Date: August 5 or earlier

Location: Eagan

Children: 2 month old boy

Compensation:  Up to $25 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick time

Schedule: Monday through Friday, seven hours per day. The family can be flexible on the start/end times.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience, experience with newborn to toddler age children. Current flu and Tdap vaccinations or willing to obtain

Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who will not only provide excellent physical care for their son but also engage him in learning and enrichment activities appropriate to his age. They also expect that the nanny will be taking him to activities outside the home such as swim lessons, parks, the zoo, the science museum etc. They anticipate this will be a multi year engagement. The ability to engage with the child without using devices is a strong requirement as they want very minimal or no screen time for their son in his first few years. The parents enjoy reading, cooking, walking and hiking. They are using cloth diapers and any household duties expected would primarily be related to the child; diapers, dishes and laundry. 

Pets: Golden Retriever, nanny must be very comfortable with dogs


 

Type of Position: Full/Part Time, 1600 hours annually

Start Date: Ideally July 15th but could wait until the end of August for the right person

Location: Edina

Children: 5 1/2 year old boy and 11 year old girl

Compensation:  Minimum of $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, would consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday through Friday afternoons for about 6 hours daily until 6-7:00 pm on school days. On non school days, start about 8:30 am. In the summer, the children will attend some camps so then the nanny may not need to always start at 8:30 am. The family will guarantee pay for 1600 hours annually. There may be occasional mornings when both parents have to travel and these hours would be known well in advance.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience and at least two years of college, formal education in child development would be a plus

Description: This is a typical two professional family. They value education, well-roundedness, discipline, following a schedule and respect for other people. The children are involved in sports, piano lessons and have limited TV or iPad time. The younger boy loves to play card and board games. The older girl loves to read, write and draw.   The parents would like the nanny to start mid day and perform some light household duties such as children's laundry, dishes, grocery shopping and errands. Then, pick the children up from school, take them to after school activities and fix them snacks and dinner. This family recently moved here, has employed nannies in the past and the children understand what having a nanny is like and are pretty good at bonding.

Children: 13 year old boy/girl twins and 17 year old girl

Compensation:  Up to $25 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday through Friday, eight hours per day. The family is open to considering a 10:00 am to 6:00 pm schedule or split shift 7-10:00 am and 1:00-6:00 pm.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience, comfortable with middle school and high school age children, household management experience. College education and/or teaching experience is a plus.

Description:  This is a great family that has hired several nannies through our service over the years.  The job is a combination of childcare, transporting the two younger children and household management. The younger children need to be picked up at school, drive them to activities, remind them to do homework/practice and limit screen time. Household management duties include schedule and manage service providers, make appointments for the children, errands, laundry, grocery shopping, preparation of healthy dinners and light cleaning and organizing. It's important that the nanny is mature, energetic, and enthusiastic and can partner with the parents to guide the children in their social/emotional development.

Pets: One West Highland Terrier who will need to be walked


 

Type of Position: Full/Part Time, 32 hours in four days

Start Date: Anytime between July to the end of August/early September

Location: Edina

Children: 4 month old and 2 1/2 and 4 year old boys

Compensation:  Minimum of $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation

Schedule: Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm for 32 hours

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience and infant care experience, First Aid and CPR certified or willing to obtain, current flu and Tdap vaccination or willing to obtain

Description:   The primary responsibilities for the nanny will be caring for the infant and 2 1/2 year old in the home. The parents are looking for a nanny who loves to play outside, walking to the park or in the yard. It's important that she supports a learning and caring environment for the children to develop their emotional and developmental skills. The older boy will be starting full time preschool in the fall and the toddler will attend preschool two mornings per week. The parents will do school drop offs and afternoon pick up for the older boy. This is a family that loves to be active playing outdoors as much as possible, spending time at the cabin, reading books, pretend play and games and learning activities.

Type of Position:  Part Time school year Monday  through Thursday,  2:15 to 4:45 pm for at least  10-20 hours per week, and 36 hours per week in the summer,

Start Date: September 3

Location: Edina

Children: 5, 8 and 10 year old boys

Compensation: $22 to $30 per hour, depending on qualifications, duties and number of hours per week

Benefits: Paid holidays and PTO/sick pay

Schedule: Part Time school year Monday  through Thursday,  2:15 to 4:45 pm for at least  10-20 hours per week, and 36 hours per week in the summer,

Additional Qualifiers: Minimum of one year nanny experience with multiple children or background in education, own a safe reliable vehicle that can fit three boosters/car seats

Description:   This energetic family with three boys is looking for a creative , energetic part time nanny during the school year who ideally would want to continue through the summers as well. The ideal candidate will enjoy leading creative play and homework while teaching manners, respect and self care skills. The boys love math/science, legos, card games, pretend play, reading, hiking, downhill skiing and swimming. The family does not do screen time during the week.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 5:0 pm

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny who has worked with multiple young children infant to young school age. The nanny must be comfortable working as a partner in parenting with the mother at home. Strong swimming skills, current vaccinations, current CPR or willing to obtain is also required.

Description:  This is a great family that has employed nannies previously through our service. The parents are seeking a nanny with recent experience caring for 3 or more young active children. The parents desire a long term nanny who will provide excellent care and guidance for their sons and be an integrated part of a parenting relationship. The activities with the children are home based and focus on at home and neighborhood play. The family lives on a lake so strong swimming skills and vigilant water safety supervision are required. The parents like to maintain a routine for the children and the two older boys attend part time preschool and have weekly swimming lessons. This is a nice family to work with and a great job for a creative experienced nanny who enjoys keeping active and busy. 

Pets: One high energy Vizsla, nanny  must like dogs

Description:  This young active family is seeking a nanny for the long term who will grow with their family.  The primary responsibilities for the nanny will be caring for the infants and 2 1/2 year old and providing a fun and nurturing environment. The parents are seeking a nanny who will engage the children in age appropriate physical and educational activities both in the home and outside the home. It's important that the nanny is a good communicator and passionate about caring for children.

Type of Position: Full Time, 40 hours in four days

Start Date:  Ideally late July, could consider August

Location: Minneapolis, near Cedar lake

Children: 2 year old girl and 5 year old boy

Compensation:  Up to $21 per hour, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will possibly consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: 7:45 am to 5:45 pm, for four days per week. The day off is currently Wednesday and they could be flexible regarding the nanny's day off but it likely would not be Monday or Friday.

Additional Qualifiers: Experience as a nanny, childcare provider or teacher, CPR and First Aid certified

Description: This family is seeking a nanny primarily to care for the two year old girl. The would like someone who will take her on outings and socialize her with other children. Their older son will be in full time kindergarten and need care after school care and on non school days. They will also need help with some school drop offs and pick ups so it's important that the nanny have a reliable car. The kids enjoy playing outside, going to parks and on outings. The parents value music and the arts and would like nanny who can foster these interests in their children. They anticipate needing a nanny until the fall of 2020 when their youngest will start full time preschool.

Pets: Older Golden Retriever and Black Lab, both dogs are calm and very good with the kids


 

Type of Position: Full Time, 35-45 hours per week

Location: Minneapolis, near Lake Harriet

Children: 3 1/2 year old boy/girl triplets and an almost 6 year old girl

Compensation:  Up to $21 per hour, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance, the family provides a vehicle for transporting the children

Schedule: Primarily weekdays but possibly some weekend help needed, 35-45 hours per week, typical schedule would be 7:30/8:00 am to 4:30/5:00 pm. 

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for multiples and preschoolers, college educated, a background in early childhood education would be nice,

Description: If you enjoy caring for preschoolers, this job will keep you busy and active. The care is primarily for the triplets as the older girl is in full time school. The childcare duties include all care for the children, playing, reading, spending time outside, driving, taking them to activities and parks. The nanny will need to be flexible to accommodate the varying hours of the work. Either the mother or a part time summer nanny may be involved some days, so the nanny must be comfortable working with others, sharing tasks and a need to cooperate, communicate and work together. Household duties are related to the children  and household laundry. The parents want the nanny to be a part of their family.

Location: Minneapolis, currently living near the river, moving to near Theodore Wirth Park in December

Children: 7 month old boy

Compensation:  Up to $25 per hour, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: Six weeks paid vacation guaranteed, with possibility of more, paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm or 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, additional "babysitting" is an option but not required, family can consider both schedules depending on the nanny and her preference

Additional Qualifiers: Infant care experience, current flu and Tdap vaccination or willing to obtain

Description: More than anything, the parents are looking for a nanny who will provide a calm, loving, nurturing relationship for their sweet little boy. They expect the nanny to be attentive to their feedback about the way they are parenting their son and respectful of their input. Both mom and dad are equally involved so they would like the nanny to communicate with both of them. Dad works from a home office so the nanny should be comfortable with this. They love to go for walks, spend time with family and friends and have a busy routine.

Type of Position: Part Time, 30 hours per week average, flexibility required, see schedule below

Start Date:  September 3

Location: Minneapolis, Southwest

Children: 1 and almost 5 year old girls and almost 7 year old boy

Compensation:  Up to $25 per hour, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: Paid holidays, the family provides a vehicle for transporting the children

Schedule: Primarily on Monday through Thursday, 20 hours one week and 40 hours the alternate week, typical hours are between 7:00 am to 2:00 pm and twice a month one half day on the weekend.

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler through school age children, college educated, CPR

Description: The nanny will help the children get up in the morning and care primarily for the toddler and 4 year old during the day. The children enjoy playing outside, walks, reading and arts and crafts activities. The parents work alternating weeks outside the home. Typically one parent will be working from home and in and out of the home while the nanny is with the children.  This is a two physician family so the schedule can be somewhat variable. They need a nanny with some flexibility but can guarantee an average of 30 hours per week.

Description:  This family is seeking a part time nanny who will provide fun active play and great care for the two boys and loving attentive care for the infant. The older boy will be in preschool three days per week so many times the care will just be for the toddler boy and the baby. The boys love to read, spend time outside, play with their toys and active play. They are a fairly laid back family and spend a lot of time at home when not working.

Type of Position: Full Time, 44 hours in four days, see schedule below

Location: St Paul

Children: Infant girl due in September, 2 and 5 year old girls and 7 year old boy.

Compensation:  Up to $25 per hour, depending on qualifications 

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance. The family provides a vehicle for transporting the children.  

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Additional Qualifiers: Significant experience caring for children of all ages, including infants.  CPR training and all vaccinations up to date. Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred but not required. The ability to speak a second language and play an instrument is a plus but not required.

Description: The parents are seeking an experienced nanny who is respectful, loving and finds joy in caring for their children. They have had two long term nannies and it's vital that a nanny is comfortable with open and honest communication. As a family, they enjoy their time together, getting out in the community going to different places and meeting other families. They have family dinner every night and have grandparents who visit frequently on the weekends. The two older children will be in full day school so most of the care is for the toddler and infant.

Description:  The parents are looking for a loving and caring individual who puts the needs of their son first and treats him with compassion and patience. They don't believe in letting their child "cry it out" and hope to find a nanny with the same philosophy as they want their child to feel secure, loved and cared for. The parents would like to find a  nanny who is experienced with early childhood development, physically and intellectually, and who could teach mom and dad a thing or two! They are a quiet, loving family and look forward to having someone enter and enrich their lives.

Description:  This loving family is seeking a positive, warm and energetic nanny to help care for their active young boys and to support their busy household. The candidate should be interested in child development and excited about working with children to foster their intellectual and emotional development. The job duties would include general childcare, arranging outings and activities, transportation to and from school preparing healthy meals and snacks, children's laundry, organizing and tidying playroom and other frequently used areas. The ideal candidate would be engaging, patient, nurturing, responsible and highly organized. The candidate would also be flexible to occasional schedule  changes and willing to jump in and help as needed to support the family. The mother works part-time from a home office and is planning to return to work outside the home in the coming year.

Compensation: To $25 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule: Typical schedule would be 30-35 hours per week, Wednesday through Friday 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturdays 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Sundays 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.  Potential for additional regular hours. Occasional travel and overnight care.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous childcare experience with infants, toddlers and school age children. College degree and background in early childhood development or teaching is preferred. The candidate should also be comfortable swimming with children and CPR certified or willing to obtain.

Description:  This active family is seeking a positive and dependable evening/weekend nanny to help care for their two young boys and baby on the way in the fall. They are looking for a candidate who is engaging, warm, nurturing, professional, organized, patient and kind.  The ideal candidate would be flexible and easy-going, and able to jump in and care for the children independently or serve as an extra set of hands alongside Mom or Dad. Duties would include: general childcare, playing, mealtime, bedtime, taking one or two kids to an activity or on an outing, and accompanying the family on outings. The candidate would also be able to assist with household tasks including tidying up the playroom and kid's rooms, loading/unloading dishwasher and tidying up the kitchen, folding children's laundry and getting organized for the week ahead.
