Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position: Part Time, three days, the family can be flexible on which days and the hours. This is most likely a shorter term 8-12 months job.

Start Date: October

Location: Eden Prairie

Children:   Infant, 2 1/2  and 4 year old girls 

Compensation: Up to $25 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Three days per week, the family can be flexible on which days and the hours, ideally nanny will also be available for occasional evening/weekend time

Additional Qualifiers: Nanny experience, ideally bilingual in Spanish

Description:  This family is looking for a nanny to help a stay at home mother with the children. She is seeking a nanny who can care for and take the older girls to activities and appointments while she focuses on  the baby. They prefer a nanny who will get the girls outdoors a lot, weather permitting.  There may be times that mother and nanny go on outings together. The girls have attended a Spanish immersion daycare so it would be a plus if the nanny speaks Spanish. The family enjoys spending time together and are laid back in their parenting style. They own a condo in Mexico and would love to have the nanny willing to travel with them on vacation.

Type of Position: Full Time, average 40 hours per week

Start Date:   August 17

Location: Edina

Children:   1 year old boy, 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 year old girls and 7 year old boy, nanny care is for the two youngest children

Compensation:  $800 per week

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Monday through Friday, nanny must be able to start between 7-8:00 am and work until 4-5:00 pm. Some days may be 6-8 hours and rarely may be up to 10 hours. Tuesday and Thursday are typically shorter days and done by 2-3:00 pm and some Fridays are flexible and the nanny could be off or work a half day. One week per month is Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5-5:30 pm.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience with multiple children, own a car that could accommodate 2-3 children but very rarely would need to do this

Description: The This is a fun active friendly family. The parents hope to find a warm caring nanny to care for their little ones. The  primary responsibility of the nanny is to provide quality loving care for the two youngest children. Priority is keeping the children happy, safe and provide them with nutritious meals. The 4 year old girl is full time preschool and the older boy in full day school and summer camps.  The family enjoys going to the park, playing in the yard and with fun neighbors. They have a big toy room for fun at home play.

Type of Position: Part Time, 30-35 hours per week

Start Date:  End of August

Location: Edina

Children:   12 year old boy and girl twins and 16 year old girl

Compensation: Up to $22 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 12:00 to 6:00 pm for 30 hours. If the nanny would like up to 35 hours, they can add more hours on one or two days per week.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny and household management experience with school age children. College education and/or teaching experience is a plus.

Description: This is a great family that has hired several nannies through our service over the years. The parents are seeking a nanny who can ensure a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment for their school-aged children. They also need help with management for their household with duties to include meal preparation, grocery shopping, errands, organizing house and play dates and activities.  It's important that the nanny is mature, energetic and enthusiastic and can partner with the parents to guide the children in their social/emotional development. Transporting the two younger children to activities in the afternoon is a big part of the job and the family reimburses standard per mile compensation.

Type of Position: Part Time, 30 hours in three days

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Edina

Children:   Almost 2 year old girl and 4 1/2 year old  girl

Compensation: $20+ per hour depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance, the family can provide a car for the nanny to transport children if she prefers not to use her own car.

Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday start between 7-8:00 am and end between 5-6:00 pm, ten hours per day

Additional Qualifiers: Experience with preschool age children

Description:  The parents are seeking a fun, trustworthy nanny for a long term commitment. No special skills or training are required but someone that understands the patience, emotional IQ and creativeness it takes to nurture children. They would like a nanny who can sit down and teach them age appropriate activities and also like to have fun, play dress up, play outside and just be silly. They are a pretty laid back family that enjoys time with friends, together as a family and being active outside. Both parents office from home, usually not both at the same time. They understand the importance of boundaries with this, don't micromanage and their daughters have grown up with this working arrangement.

Type of Position: Part Time, 21 hours in three days with option for additional part time hours

Start Date: September 4

Location: Edina

Children:   1 1/2 year old girl and two boys who are 3 1/2 and almost 7 years old 

Compensation: Up to $25,000 annually ($22+ per hour) depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Monday and Thursday 12:45 to 6:00 pm and Tuesday 7:30 am to 6:00 pm for total of 21 hours. There is an option for additional part time hours on Wednesday and Friday if the nanny is interested.

Additional Qualifiers: Five + years of nanny experience, ideally a college degree, must own a safe vehicle that can accommodate three car seats (one is a booster)

Description:  On Monday and Thursday, the nanny will pick the two younger children up at preschool, come home, have lunch and nap and then late afternoon meet the older boy at the bus stop which is close to the family's home. Then it's play time until the parents get home. On Tuesday, nanny prepares breakfast and gets old boy to school and the two younger children are home all day. This family has had two long term nannies who both have become very close with the children and easily acclimated to being in their home. The children work best on a planned schedule, with positive approach parenting, and minimal screen time. This is a very close family and parents prioritize time with the children and spending time together as a family. They are a positive, outgoing, social, active and involved family who looks forward to welcoming a new nanny!

Type of Position: Part Time, average of 30 hours in three days

Start Date: Late August

Location: Edina

Children: 2 month old girl,  20 months old and 3 year old boys  

Compensation: $20 per hour

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Three days per week, total hours would average 30 hours per week. Some days are 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and some are 6:00 am to 1:00 pm and the days the nanny is needed will vary from week to week. The schedule is known 1-3 months in advance. Additional hours required one weekend per month.

Additional Qualifiers: Healthy, mature and previous experience working with young infant and toddler age children, current on vaccinations and okay with annual flu vaccination. 

Description:  Child care, meal prep, children's laundry and engaging the boys in age appropriate activities are the expected duties. The nanny would often be caring for the children while one parent is also home. There  will be extended family, from time to time, visiting for weeks to months during which the nanny will still work her regular hours. The older boy will be starting preschool in the fall which is one block from the home and he will need to be walked to and from. There is no driving required.

Children: 9 month old girl,  2 1/2  year old boy and 4 1/2 year old girl  

Compensation: To $22 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, medical insurance contribution and a family vehicle provided for any driving of children

Schedule: Tuesday and Wednesday 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, Thursday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny comfortable with infant to preschool age children, CPR trained

Description:  Child care is the primary focus of this job.  The parents are seeking a nanny who will provide a nurturing, fun, creative and educational experience for the children in their home. The older girl may attend part time preschool. The children like to play outside at home or at the park and swim in the lake in the summer. This is a great job for someone who is seeking to have three day weekends.

Schedule: Monday through Thursday 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, with potential for some additional evening hours

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny comfortable with infant to preschool/ young schools age children, strong swimmer, comfortable working as a partner in parenting with mother at home

Description:  This great family has successfully employed a nanny through our service for three years. As she leaves to start her own family, the parents are seeking another long term nanny to provide excellent care and guidance for the children and be an integrated part of a parenting partnership. The activities with the children are home based and focus on at home and neighborhood  play. The family lives on a lake so strong swimming skills and vigilant water safety supervision are required.  The parents like to maintain a routine for the children and the two older boys attend part time preschool and weekly swimming lessons.  This is a very nice family to work with and a great job for someone who is seeking to have three day weekends.

Location: Minneapolis, near Downtown

Children:   3 month old boy

Compensation: Up to $800 per week, depending on qualifications

Schedule: Four days per week with the day off being Wednesday or Thursday, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience  with infants, preference for a nanny with training in Montessori teaching

Description: This family lives in a condo near downtown Minneapolis. Child care for the infant is the primary responsibility of the nanny. Most important is to care for his physical needs and provide quality loving care and age appropriate play and activities for him. Outdoor play, as the baby gets older and weather permits, is important and there are play areas on the condo property. There is an older boy but he will be attending full time child care outside the home and the mother will drive him.  The parents value cultural diversity and are very open to a nanny who is not from the US. The parents are very family oriented and make sure to spend all of their time that they are not at work with their sons. They enjoy the outdoors and taking their sons to various activities around the Twin Cities and reading and play at home. There is no driving required.

Start Date:  Mid August to early September

Location: Minneapolis, near Lake Harriet

Children:  2 year old girl and two boys who are 4 and 6 years old

Compensation: Up to $1050 per week, depending on qualifications and schedule

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days, will consider contribution to medical insurance and the family provides a minivan for transporting the children to activities

Schedule: Monday though Friday, will be a minimum of 40 hours per week, possibly up to 50.  The parents need to experiment a bit with schedules as the new school year starts and ask for some flexibility as they work this out. Looking for a nanny to be able (with advance notice) to stay for a longer day and feed the kids dinner and occasionally put them to bed. This would happen once every 3-4 weeks.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience with multiple children preferably with prior infant care experience. Multilingual would be a plus and experience with adopted children is a plus but not required.

Description:  The parents primary concern is the safety and well being of their children. This includes being active and outdoors year round. They look for the nanny to be actively engaged in play with the kids and compassionate and loving. Transportation needs include school drop off (though parents usually do this), school pick up, take kids to swimming lessons and activities. The kids are active and love being outdoors with walks to the beach and several close local parks and play in their large yard. The parents are looking for a true partner in caring for the children and hope to have a nanny stay with their family for many years.

Type of Position: Full Time, Monday-Thursday, Nanny + Household Duties

Start Date:  ASAP

Location: Minneapolis, near Lake of the Isles

Children:   6 1/2 year old girl and 10 1/2 year old boy

Compensation: $1000 per week, depending on qualifications and experience. Eligible for a year-end bonus. Nanny will be given the option to earn additional income while caring for the children if both parents travel overnight, which may happen twice a year for 4-5 days at a time.

Benefits: Paid time off including vacation and sick days, and the family will contribute $100 per month to a Healthcare Savings Account

Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Additional Qualifiers: High school or college graduate with at least four years nanny/childcare/teaching experience. Previous household management a plus. Comfort with technology including iPhone, iPad calendar and other apps is important. Own a reliable care for transporting two children.

Description: Seeking a mature, energetic, organized take-charge individual to help busy parents care for two school-aged children and help manage the household. While childcare is the nanny's primary responsibility, the children are in school during the day, so other responsibilities will include various household tasks and errands. Primary duties include before and after school childcare, homework supervision, transportation to and from school and activities, dinner preparation for the children, errands, kitchen and play-area cleanup, working with parents to manage the children's schedule, and other tasks related to maintaining the household on behalf of the family.

Compensation: Up to $900 per week, depending on qualifications

Schedule: Monday through Friday typically 7:45 am to 4:45 pm. Average of 45 hours per week. The schedule may vary with some end times being closer to 4:00 and some being closer to 5:30/6:00. About six weeks per year, the start time will be 6:30 am.

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny with a background in early childhood education/development if possible.

Description:  The parents are seeking a long term nanny to start in January when their current nanny leaves to start her own family. An energetic, loving, fun nanny who can be somewhat flexible on the schedule and set limits in a loving manner  is a good fit for this busy family with two parents who work long hours. They have had two excellent nannies who have become part of their family and are very grateful for what these nannies have done for them.  The job involves care both in the home, getting outdoors and activities in and outside the home. The nanny is not required to transport children in her own car.

Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule: Three days per week; the ideal would be Monday Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. However the family is willing to consider other days/times.

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny with infant care experience, also experience with preschool age

Description:  Care for the infant is the primary focus of this job.  She is breastfeed so will be fed pumped breast milk and they use cloth diapers. The parents would like a nanny who can help them develop a good sleep and feeding routine. The older girl is in preschool so will be home later afternoons and non school days. Her preschool is 1/2 mile from home and nanny will need to pick her and it's walk able in good weather. The family enjoys being outside. Family meals and healthy eating is important to them. The parents both work to keep their busy lives as simple as possible; family time on weekends, keeping good sleep routines and maintaining an orderly and clutter free house. They limit TV time and prefer no TV for the baby for at least two years.

Compensation: $760 per week ($19 per hour)

Description: The parents are seeking a nurturing nanny who has the energy level to keep up with a toddler plus keep the house in order. The family may have more children and want a nanny who will commit to stay with them for at least four years until their son enters school.  While the child is napping three hours per day, the parents expect the nanny to manage the housework, all the laundry and meal preparation. This may change as their son naps less and is involved in more activities outside the home.
