Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position: Part Time, 24-30 hours per week in four or five days, see schedule below

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Edina

Children:   12 year old boy and girl twins and 16 year old girl

Compensation: To $22 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 12:00 to 6:00 pm for 30 hours or Monday through Thursday, same schedule, for 24 hours per week.  If the nanny would like up to 35 hours, they can add more hours on one or two days per week.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny and household management experience with school age children. College education and/or teaching experience is a plus.

Description: This is a great family that has hired several nannies through our service over the years. The parents are seeking a nanny who can ensure a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment for their school-aged children. They also need help with management for their household with duties to include meal preparation, grocery shopping, errands, organizing house and play dates and activities.  It's important that the nanny is mature, energetic and enthusiastic and can partner with the parents to guide the children in their social/emotional development. Transporting the two younger children to activities in the afternoon is a big part of the job and the family reimburses standard per mile compensation.

Type of Position: Part Time, average of 30 hours in three days

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Edina

Children: 3 month old girl,  2 and 3 1/2 year old boys  

Compensation: $22 per hour

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays

Schedule: Three days per week, total hours would average 30 hours per week. Some days are 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and some are 6:00 am to 1:00 pm and the days the nanny is needed will vary from week to week. The schedule is known 1-3 months in advance. Additional hours required one weekend per month.

Additional Qualifiers: Healthy, mature and previous experience working with young infant and toddler age children, current on vaccinations and okay with annual flu vaccination. 

Description:  Child care, meal prep, children's laundry and engaging the boys in age appropriate activities are the expected duties. The nanny would often be caring for the children while one parent is also home. There  will be extended family, from time to time, visiting for weeks to months during which the nanny will still work her regular hours. The older boy attends preschool which is one block from the home and he will need to be walked to and from. There is no driving required.

Type of Position: Part Time, 30 hours in three days

Start Date: Negotiable but ASAP is best

Location: Inver Grove Heights

Children: 9 month old boy  

Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Will consider all options if the nanny candidate is a good choice for their family

Schedule: Wednesday and Thursday 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and Friday 12:00 to 6:00 pm

Additional Qualifiers: Nanny experience caring for infants, First Aid and CPR certified

Description:  All the care that is necessary, appropriate, safe and productive for a 9 month old child. The parents are seeking a nanny who communicates and listens well. As parents, they value reading, music, independent play and creative fun as enjoyable ways to help their son develop and grow. They hope to find a nanny who can follow instructions well but is also very experienced in helping children learn through play.

Pets: One small dog, Bichon-Shih Tzu mix


Type of Position: Part Time, 20 hours per week, schedule will vary

Start Date:  October/November

Location: Maple Grove

Children: 2 month old boy and  2 1/2 year old girl  

Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays,

Schedule: Initially the job would be four hours per day for five days per week. As the mother's work schedule varies, the hours would be adjusted to some full days, still minimum of 20 hours. The mother typically knows her work schedule two weeks in advance. This requires that the nanny can work a flexible schedule is able to work a combination of half and full days throughout the week.

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny with infant care experience, also experience with toddler age

CPR certified or willing to obtain, willing to receive flu and Tdap vaccinations

Description:  Childcare is the primary focus of this job. If time allows, the family would appreciate help with laundry, pick up toys and dishes.  This family has used our temporary nanny service

Type of Position: Full Time, 40 hours in four days

Start Date:  January

Location: Minneapolis, Downtown Mill District

Children:   3 month old

Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm or the family can be flexible on which four days the nanny would like to work as their is grandparent who will care for the baby one day per week. 

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny with infant care experience

Description:  The parents are looking for a nanny to join their family and care for their new baby who is arriving in October. It is most important to them that they find a nanny who can help them take best care of their child. They would like someone who truly enjoys and has experience working with infants and would consider that a priority. In addition to caring for the child, some light help for the family would be ideal when/if time allows so as to maximize the quality time the parents can spend with their child. Their condo has floor to ceiling windows with lots of natural light and is just across the street from Gold Medal Park. They live very close to the 35W/Washington Ave exit and underground parking is provided for the nanny.

Type of Position: Full Time, average 35 hours per week, will vary 30 to 42 hours per week depending on school schedule, usually four days per week

Start Date:  October 18

Location: Minneapolis, Linden Hills

Children:   5 year old girl and 7 and 9 year old boys

Compensation: To $730 per week, $38,000 annually, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday during the school year; the morning time start time can be flexible and end time is typically around 6:00 pm. On non school days, the days will start at 7:30 am. The day off is usually Thursday but this does occasionally change.

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny who is kind, caring, communicates well with parents, can be flexible

Description: The parents are seeking a nanny who is organized, proactive, neat and tidy and has the ability to engage kids in activities and learning.  All three children are in school until 2:00 pm and they will need to be picked up at the bus stop. The primary focus of the job is child related activities, meal prep, homework help, organization, driving to activities and volunteering in their school. Mornings are dedicated to household management activities; helping with family laundry, grocery list prep, dinner prep for the children, planning and registering the kids for activities and occasional errands.

Type of Position: Part Time, two to three days per week, see schedule below, family is open to meeting nannies who nearly meet the requested hours and open to discussing what may meet their needs

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Minneapolis, West River Pkwy

Children: 4 month old twin boys  

Compensation: To $25 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation to be discussed

Schedule: Every Wednesday 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, every other Friday 9:30 am to 6:00 pm and ideally every Saturday 10:00 am t0 2:00 pm. They are open to the nanny working three Saturdays per month and a nanny who has slightly different availability than noted in the schedule. Also, every other Saturday and the opposite Friday is an option the family can consider

Additional Qualifiers: Experienced nanny with infant care experience, ideally experience with multiples, some college or college degree preferred.

Description:  Care for the children is the nanny's primary responsibility. It's important that the nanny interact with the children in a positive and engaging way, record activity during the day and communicate with the parents daily. In addition, they would like the nanny to do small loads of the boys' laundry, wash bottles and keep space tidy. The parents are down to earth and have good senses of humor. They are looking for a nanny who can bring their own experience but also respect their wishes for care of their sons. Someone who is warm, flexible, patient and motivated would fit well with them. It's also important that the nanny is kind to the dog.

Type of Position: Full Time, 35-40 hours

Start Date:  ASAP

Location: Wayzata

Children:   1 1/2 and 5 1/2 year old boys 

Compensation: To $25 per hour, depending on qualifications .

Benefits: PTO, holidays and contribution to medical insurance

Schedule: 35-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, daytime and evening hours. Exact schedule to be determined with the candidate. Occasional weekend, overnight and travel care.

Additional Qualifiers: Previous childcare or teaching experience with toddler and school age children. College degree and background in early childhood development is preferred. The candidate should also be comfortable swimming with children and CPR certified or willing to obtain.

Description: The parents are seeking a long-term, dependable nanny to provide excellent care for their two young boys. The ideal candidate would be engaging and fun, warm and nurturing, responsible and organized, and flexible with a positive attitude. The candidate would also be interested in child development and excited about working with children to foster their intellectual and emotional development. The job duties would also include managing household duties related to childcare. The older child attends Kindergarten during the days. The nanny's duties would include taking the children to school/classes and arranging activities and outings. The family has a vehicle for the nanny to use to transport the children. The mother works part-time from a home office.

Type of Position: Part Time, 27 hours in three days

Start Date: November

Location: Wayzata

Children:   3 month old girl and almost two year old boy

Compensation: To $20 hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid time off

Schedule: Nine hours per day for three days per week; the family can be flexible on which days the nanny would like to work except they do need the nanny to work on Friday

Additional Qualifiers: Experience working with infant/toddler ages children and multiple young children

Description:  The parents are seeking a fun, loving, patient and firm nanny to care for two easy going and fun loving children. The older boy is very curious and loves to go outside. They go for lots of walks and have a park near their house. The infant is currently on an eat, sleep and play schedule.

Type of Position: Part Time, average 33 hours per week in three or four days, see schedule below

Start Date: October 22

Location: Woodbury

Children: 11 month old triplet girls  

Compensation: To $25 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance. The family provides a vehicle for any required transportation with the girls.

Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 6:30 am to 4:30 pm and every other Monday 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, average of 33 hours per week

Additional Qualifiers: Multiple infant care experience required, experience or training in childhood education preferred and college education preferred, current on vaccinations and flu shot

Description:  The parents are seeking an active nanny to provide loving and quality care for their daughters. This includes  the daily routine childcare, educational play and getting outdoors as weather permits. The parents like to stay active with the girls and take them on walks and outings. They do not allow television for the girls.
